Day 47 - Midterm Guide

These three cheat sheets are adapted from Master Organic Chemistry. They may help those of you who use summary sheets to study:

Whilst preparing for the midterm, I found some useful reagents that can help you stitch together almost any synthesis question you might see. Keep in mind, some of these have not been taught in class before, but you may still use them to solve a question:
  • mCPBA (ketone to ester)
  • NH2NH2 & KOH (ketone to alkane)
  • CrO3 / PCC (alcohol to ketone or aldehyde)
  • LiAlH4 & H3O+ (full reduction all the way to alcohol)
  • DIBAH (one step reduction; ketone to alcohol; acid to aldehyde; aldehyde to alcohol)
  • 1, 2 - ethandiol (protecting group for ketone; acetal formation)
  • TMS (protecting group for alcohol)
Below are some of the best problem sets you can do to prepare yourself (Edit: I highly recommend doing these once you've finished your readings..):

2. Acid Halide Reactions (guess the products)
